Flow, an interactive projection piece simulates the rhythmic motion of waves in a physical space. Using code-generated movement and a custom particle system, it captures the splash and dissipation of sea foam. Projected onto a sand-textured surface with gradient coloring, the work creates an immersive, layered visual experience inspired by the ocean.

Overview

After moving to Taipei for school, the sea—a once familiar presence—felt increasingly distant. In the city’s fast pace, imagination became my only connection to it. This work transforms the rhythm of waves, the salty breeze, and the softness of sand into a quiet sensory experience, inviting viewers to reconnect with nature within an urban setting.

Technology

The installation simulates ocean movement using particle systems and gradient colors to depict the splashing and fading of sea foam. Projected onto a sand-textured surface, it enhances tactile realism. A depth sensor detects viewer positions, allowing waves to respond and flow around their bodies. Through movement and gesture, visitors become part of the wave’s rhythm—creating a meditative interaction with the sea.
